Design Originals Books are great to own. They are crammed full of wonderful projects, great directions-some
in step-by-step picture format, a materials list and great finished project photos. I keep my own little log of
Design Originals Books with me that I take to the store so I don't duplicate a book I already have at home. Each Design
Originals book is numbered and I have included the number so that you can check your own stock to make sure you don't duplicate.
If you do-it will still make a prized gift for your fellow artist. I have found most of the projects to be pretty
simple, but the finished product is just elegant. You will never be at a loss for a great project with Design Originals books.
Design Originals Book, Metal Jewelry 101~This is number 3423 in the Design Originals series of books. I am a sucker
for jewelry and for metal and I did love it. I think it will inspire you if you have never worked with metal before
or you are somewaht versed in it. I found all the projects to look classy and there really only was one that was not
my cup of tea- although it still was very pretty. Some of the projects include wire-wrapped turquoise pendant, memories
bracelet, copper flower pendant, metal stamping, multip-layered pendant and more. Makes a great gift too.

Altered Surfaces using Acrylic Paints with Gels, Mediums, Grounds & Pastes~ This is Design Originals
Book #5326 and is new for 2008. I received a copy of this book in one of the classes I took at CHA 2008 and fell in
love with it and all the cool pastes, gels and mediums. I worked with Golden brand products but there are other brands
out there too like Liquitex- typicaly found in the art section. The artisit is Chris Cozen-wonderfully talented and
over 30 years experience in art and design and her works are shown in galleries around the US (she was a very good teacher,
too). This book tells you the uses for the different gels, pastes, mediums etc and the projects are fairly easy with
stunning results. The book gives instructions for using pumice gel, mold paste, glass bead gel, tar gel, self leveling
gels, mixing acrylics, crackle, grounds and more. If you ever thought you would enjoy using these products, this is
the book for you. If you have some of the products and don't know or have forgotten what to do with them (I fall into
that category), this is the book for you.

Magic With Markers for Paper, Fabirc, Wood, Metal, Plastic & Clay~ This Design Originals Book, #5316
is new for 2008. It is by Sherrill Kahn, a well-known fabric artist. I wasn't impressed with the title, probably
would have passed it over but the projects are gorgeous. Most projects are done with Sharpie or Bic permanent markers.
Some of the projects include necklaces, decorating shoes, ceramic tiles, book covers and card making. The techniques
can be used over and over again, such as a crayon resist, adding alcohol to make the markers bleed, printing with plexiglass
and drawing designs to name a few. The markers aren't expensive but the projects look like a million bucks.

Stamping Polymer Clay & Wire Design Originals Book #5137~ This book is co-authored by 8 different
artists. Some of the projects include spirit dolls, making beads, artistic covers, decorating tins, foiled elegance,
faux ivory and more. There is a also a beautiful bookmark project also. Although this book has been out for awhile,
the projects are timeless.

Design Originals Book Art Faces in Clay~ This book is by Maureen Carlson. I believe she has been
on Carol Duvall and I took a class from her one year while attending CHA. We used this book and commercially produced
clay molds by Amaco for our projects. Maureen is quite talented and a good teacher. You can use polymer clay,
air dry clay, paper mache and anything else you can think of to create great dolls, altered art & more. If
you have some of these face molds and need some inspiration this book is for you. If you have been wanting an excuse
to try the push molds- this book is for you. The projects are pretty easy but have a wonderully unique outcome.
Some of the projects include wrapped wire pin, book covers, story box, tassel dolls, art dolls, found objects and more.
It even shows you how to make molds. Fun book!

Designs Original book, Altered 104 Everything! ~ This book is by the well known artist Beth Cote and
is number #5239. Beth's primary specialty is mixed media and book arts. There are some intersting and unique projects
in this book. You can learn how to create a tote bag from a book cover, a book clutch purse, glass slide necklaces,
peace tin neckalce, altered cd steno book, exposed binding book, tab\g booklet and chess set to name a few. Full o great

Design Originals Book - Collage Cards, Mini Books, Slide Mounts & More!~ This is Design Originals
Book #5218 and is a collaboration of work from 15 different designers. With so many designers and styles, there will
be something to please everyone or adapt to your personal style. Some of the techniques used in this wonderful
assortment of projects are: transparencies; great ideas for using slide mounts, even covering with copper; tag
journals and learning how to create stunning collages. This book is sort of hard to describe because most all the projects
are some form of collage with different materials and embellishments, booklets, pendants, cards, home decor, tins and more.
I don't think anyone would be disappointed with the information, ideas and techniques contained in this book.

This book has been discontintued by Design Originals. I only leave it up in case you are looking for it and can't
find it- now you will know why.
Images on Metal with Inks & Stamps~This is Design Originals Book #5175 by Jana Ewy. The cover
intriqued me so I thought I would give it a try. This is a book for people who like to work with unique and versatile
craft media. If you have thought you would like to try your hand at working with metal, this is a book for you.
It has projects using hardware cloth (metal screen) , art emboss metal sheets, wire form and wire rods. The projects
are lovely and seem pretty easy to do. Some of my favorite projects in the book are goddess pin or card, pocket door
hanger, beautiful hardware cloth cards, metal envelopes, hinged locket, and notepad covers. Other projects include Christmas
ornaments and tags, envelope pockets, swags & garlands, copper cards, tussy mussy and a lace up candle holder.
If you are looking for some unique gifts to make for Christmas, I think you will find them here in this book. The book
contains patterns and templates to copy and use to cut out your metal. You could also adapt the pojects for paper if
you like. It's a keeper!
Classes for doing the types of projects for these books are springing up all over Ohio so if you don't have access to
classes near you, this book is a great way to learn how to use this wonderful material.

Design Originals Book ~ Handmade Books & Bindings~ This is book #5268, new release by Mary Kaye
Seckler. It is a lovely book! If you have ever thought you would like to learn bookbinding, this is the book for
you. If you already do some bookbinding, then this book will take you to new heights. It has a glossary of bookbinding
terms, adhesive tips, it goes over supplies and tools and has copyable templates for use. Some of the projects
include: French Accordion Book Pin, Travel Journal Trio, Zig-Zag Book, Pillow Books of Lady Otori and Poly

Tim Holtz Distressables 2~ It's finally here and it is great! If you have the first Distressables
book, you will love this one just as much. It uses all the wonderful Design Orignals line of Tim Holtz cardstock that

Silver & Stones Bead Jewelry Design Originals Book~ NEW July 06- This is book #5295 authored by
Barbara A. McGuire. Besides being an author, she is also a designer and artist - reflected in her jewelry, paintings
and wearable art. Besides the wonderful projects in this book it also has some great instruction for finishing
a necklace, design concepts, simple basics on tools & findings, info on different types of pearls and rock and stone
identification. I especially like the close up photos demonstrating how to do a particular technique.
I felt she also chose some really different types of beads for her projects that you don't typically see used.
I admired and coveted many of her beads.

book with everything mini in it. This is a great little book (no pun intended) and I have already made a few little
items from this book. Some of the projects include: mini message tin, mini zipper box, several accordion style books
& folders, mini matchbook, flip flop album box Jacob's ladder mini book, matchbox booklet and other cool mini projects.
