Altered Art for the First Time by Madeline Arendt~ Madeline presents essential techniques one at a time,
building your skills one step at a time. Most of the projects involve altering books but does show other objects
to alter also. She shows you what you need to get started, how to prepare the covers, how to remove pages or glue pages
together, including a block of pages. She shows how to create pockets, niches, windows, doors and attach pages without
using glue. She goes over collage and embellishments to add. She also shows how to use tins, matchboxes, a book
out of playing cards, an envelope book, photo journal, tag book and more.
The technique part of it has very good step by step picture instructions.
If you have always wnated to venture into this kind of art, this would be a very good book to show you many useful techniques.
If you have altered books and things before but need a little inspiration, this book will do that also.

Junk to Jewelry by Brenda Scweder~ A step by step guide to using found objects in jewelry you can actually
wear. I relate to this author because I have picked up metal objects and things from the ground and picked up
things discarded at the side of the road. (Now, don't I feel better, purged!) Altough I don't care a lot
for her particular projects, I like the book because it helps you look at the things she has used and spurs me on to
use them but just in a different design. It has shown me items I never thought to use in a really cool
way too. There are a couple projects I do particularly like and probably will make pretty similar to hers.
The gallery part of the book is magnificent- I much preferred the guest artists submissions. Anyhow, I do recommend
this book. This is not the kind of book that you could make the projects piece by piece because these are found
objects and to be used more of a guideline and aid because not everyone will have the same "found" objects.
